Simple Meals, Venison Wraps

Some days there’s just not a lot of time for meal prep, and that’s where a wrap fits in nicely. Today was one of those days, and a venison wrap sounded like a satisfying dinner to keep me going for the night shift.

Simple Meal, Simple Prep

A wrap is such a simple thing, you don’t need a lot of ingredients. In fact, often less is better. I had some venison thawed out, and my wife had some leftover tortillas in the breadbox. Along with a small onion and a couple bell peppers, I tossed them in my bag and headed to work. With a wrap, you can easily overdo it with too much filling. This makes it hard to actually fold it up and eat properly, so I generally like to keep it to 2 or 3 components.

When I got some time at work to make my dinner, cooking was as quick and easy as the prep. Two hot pans, one for the sliced peppers and onion, and one for the meat. Some BBQ sauce with the meat for flavor, seared nicely and rare on the inside. A bit of oil to fry up the veggies, and you have your filling.

Scoop a few pieces of meat onto the tortilla, followed by a scoop of veggies. If you are really feeling fancy, toss on a sprinkle of shredded cheese. Once you fold up the wrap the heat from the meat and veggies will melt the cheese perfectly. Fold it up and you are ready to rock.

Wrap it all up!

The great thing about wraps is how simple and versatile they are. You can throw almost anything into one and it will probably be just fine. In particular, I like using them as lunches for camping trips. Small amount of ingredients, and not taking up a lot of pack space make them a staple. Tortillas, and flat breads in general, are not as fragile as regular bread. Also, things like salami and cheese can last a long time even without refrigeration. I will often pack several types of cheese and several types of sandwich meats as well as things like sliced cucumber, onion, or tomato. That way I can mix things up and have a different type of wrap each day if I am so inclined.

On days like today, when I have little time to prepare and little time to spend cooking, a wrap can be a quick go-to. Having a quick go-to that is also delicious, nutritious, and filling is a wonderful thing.
