Runt, from Catch Co – The Hookup

The Runt, from Catch Co

This review is for the Runt, by Catch Co. This comes from the Karl’s Bait and Tackle shop found on the Mystery Tackle Box website. I had received a few Catch Co lures in my Mystery Tackle Box before they started an online tackle shop, and was always impressed by the quality. It was no surprise to me when they opened up the shop and started selling individual lures. The Runt comes in a variety of colors, and the one I tested is the Ghost Gill.

Taking it Out

The lake I decided to test this lure on was, of course, Tooth Lake. No surprise there, as this is my favorite lake to test lures for smallmouth bass. I had my friends Colin and Jesse along with me and we fished all day. I had originally planned on using other lures for the day, however I was getting no bites. Colin and Jesse used a variety of lures and plastics and so I had a good baseline of performance to compare to. We fished primarily along the shorelines and over boulder fields, in about 6-8′ of water.

Performance

The Runt is an oddly shaped crankbait with an attractive color pattern. At least the color I was using was. The combination of the neon green feathering over the back hook, a bit of foil inside, and the mix of blues and purple really make this lure stand out. The fish seemed to agree as it very quickly became the hottest lure on the water that day. This lure has a great side to side wobble in the water and performs consistently no matter the speed you retrieve it at.  This is a lure I will be adding permanently to my smallmouth bass arsenal and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something new.
