HD Ice, Walleye slayer!

HD Ice, by Dynamic Lures

This week I reviewed the HD Ice from Dynamic Lures. An ice fishing lure meant for vertical jigging. I received this lure in one of my Simple Fishing subscription boxes a couple months ago. Fire Craw is the color I ended up with. Silver lines on top of a bright orange and yellow body makes this lure really stand out both in and out of the water. The color combination is fairly unique among my fishing lures. A pair of red treble hooks hang front and back, and are good quality and sharp.

Taking it Out

To test it out, I took it to the local river with Uncle Randy to fish for some sauger and walleye. Uncle Randy used a jig and minnow the entire day, which gave me a good control to compare the HD Ice against. Conditions were great, with it being a nice day outside, and we fished at the same depth a few feet apart from each other for the majority of the time. We arrived bright and early, found a good depth, and got to fishing.

Performance

Bites started nearly instantly when I dropped this lure into the water. Sauger after sauger started coming through the hole and it wasn’t long before walleye followed. While I was catching a majority of the fish, Uncle Randy was doing pretty good as well, making for a pretty great morning of fishing. We limited out in short order, and were soon at the point of throwing back smaller ones. The feeding frenzy kept up into the afternoon and the HD Ice didn’t leave my line for the whole thing.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line for the HD Ice is that it works. Not only does it catch fish, it catches a LOT of fish. Let’s face it, it’s not often that I outfish Uncle Randy. The HD Ice made that happen. In particular, when I tipped the hooks with a minnow, the fish went crazy for this lure. They went after it aggressively and consistently. If you don’t have one of these lures in your ice fishing arsenal, you should really consider picking one up. The fire craw color was a stand out and really drew in the bite.
